With a welcome return to events in person, the Company gathered on 4th May 2022 at the Merchant Taylors’ Hall for its 18th Annual General Meeting (Common Hall).  This followed on from a meeting of the Court where very sadly the outgoing Master, Dr Peter Blair-Fish, was unable to take the chair having come down with Covid in his last week of office.  However, Immediate Past Master Gordon Masterton stood in for the Master at the Court and the AGM.  During the course of the AGM the new Master, Wardens and Court Assistants for 2022-23 were installed and assumed office.  The new team consists:

  • Master   –  Mrs Audrey Canning
  • Senior Warden  –  Mr Raymond Joyce
  • Middle Warden  –  Dr Dolores Byrne OBE
  • Junior Warden  –  Eur Ing Penny Taylor JP

Following the AGM, a reception was held for members and guests, prior to the Installation Dinner itself at which over a 130 sat down to a really excellent meal, prepared and served by the Merchant Taylors’ caterers.  The Master’s principal guest was Dr Scott Steedman CBE FREng, the Director General Standards at BSI.  He gave a most informative speech on the origins of International Standards and their importance as a common language that all industries need to use, whether global or local.  As the evening drew to a close, and a new Company year commenced, Dr Steedman was pleased to propose the Company toast – “The Worshipful Company of Engineers, may it flourish root and branch for ever“.
