I was delighted to host my first Promoting Engineering in the City of London event in the Guildhall Members’ Room on 11 May 2022. The event was held in conjunction with The Worshipful Company of Scientific Instrument Makers, The Worshipful Company of Insurers and The Honourable Company of Air Pilots.

The distinguished panel was chaired by Jenny Body, Past President of the Royal Aeronautical Society. Members of the panel were Gary Elliott, CEO, Aerospace Technology Institute, Steve Raynes, Head of R&T &D Business Development Airbus UK, Dr Marko Bacic, Rolls-Royce Engineering Fellow – Control Systems & Gas Turbine Functionality, Dr Yoge Patel, CEO, Blue Bear Group and Miles Gray, Aerospace Policy Lead at the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS).

The discussion was focused on the Future of Air Vehicles and covered novel platforms including multiple-rotor craft and high lift and fuel-less wings, sustainable aviation fuel, including hydrogen, and more electric aircraft. Early adopters, potentially as soon as 2025, were anticipated to be in regional aircraft and logistics delivery.

The vote of thanks was given by The Master Scientific Instrument Maker, Charles Holroyd after which an informal networking reception was held.
