Service Awards and Prizes

Award Title Eligibility
Services Undergraduate Award
Awarded to an officer graduating from the Defence Technical Undergraduate Scheme (DTUS) who has achieved outstanding academic performance and demonstrated clear leadership and commitment to a professional engineering career in the Armed Forces
Graduate from DTUS
Officers currently study at the Universities of Aston, Cambridge, Loughborough, Newcastle, Northumbria, Southampton and Oxford.
Services Postgraduate Award
Awarded to the officer completing a post graduate technical degree who has achieved overall academic excellence and contributed most to the advancement of technical knowledge or its application through his/her research project.
Students at DCMT Shrivenham or through DCMT at another approved institution, the Royal School of Military Engineering, and the Royal Signals Communications Information Systems Management (CISM) MSc is also eligible
Services Engineering Training Award
Awarded to a Warrant Officer or Senior Rating / Non Commissioned Officer of each of the three Services for outstanding achievement in initial or continuation engineering training, measured through leadership and the professional inspiration given to others.
Student or training staff at the Defence College of Electro-Mechanical Engineering; the Defence College of Aeronautical Engineering; the Defence College of Communications and Information Systems; The Royal School of Military Engineering and MWS. Tri-Service Colleges will be asked to provide up to 3 nominations where sufficient quality exits, one from each Service; and the two single Service schools, one nomination each.
Royal Navy Operational Engineering Award
Awarded to an officer who has best made the application of professional engineering judgement or technical innovation to contribute significantly to the maintenance or enhancement of operational capability or effectiveness in any theatre of operations, including the UK. This award is to be called ‘Thunderer’ award to sustain the heritage of this name in the Company with the Royal Navy.
Engineer officers from the Fleet operational environment the Royal Navy engineer officer of any specialisation serving in the Fleet, including its headquarters organisation, Royal Marines units, Royal Naval Air Stations and Joint and Combined force units.
Royal Engineers Operational Engineering Award
Awarded to an officer who has best made the application of professional engineering judgement or technical innovation to contribute significantly to the maintenance or enhancement of operational capability or effectiveness in any theatre of operations, including the UK.
Officer from the Corps of Royal Engineers serving in a Corps related appointment or Land Command unit, including headquarters staff and Joint and Combined force units. Includes members of permanent RSME staff who have been who have been on operations
Royal Signals Operational Engineering Award
Awarded to an officer who has best made the application of professional engineering judgement or technical innovation to contribute significantly to the maintenance or enhancement of operational capability or effectiveness in any theatre of operations, including the UK.
Officer of the Corps of Royal Signals serving in any Corps related appointment or Land Command unit, including headquarters staff and Joint and Combined force units in any area of operations.
Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers Operational Engineering Award
Awarded to an officer who has best made the application of professional engineering judgement or technical innovation to contribute significantly to the maintenance or enhancement of operational capability or effectiveness in any theatre of operations, including the UK.
Officer of the Corps of Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers Corps serving in a Corps related appointment or Land Command unit, including headquarters staff and Joint and Combined force units in any area of operations.
Royal Air Force Operational Engineering Award
Awarded to an officer who has best made the application of professional engineering judgement or technical innovation to contribute significantly to the maintenance or enhancement of operational capability or effectiveness in any theatre of operations, including the UK.
Royal Air Force engineer officer of all ranks, including those of wing commander and above now in the General Duties Branch, serving in Air Command or Joint Helicopter Command, including its headquarters organisation and Joint and Combined force units
The Services Engineering Equipment and Support Award
Awarded to a serviceman who has contributed most, through the application of engineering skills including the use of leadership, management and technical acumen, in the acquisition of new capability or to meet material availability targets for any of the Armed Forces.
Officer, warrant officer or senior rating / non commissioned officer serving in Defence Equipment and Support

Nominations for the Services Awards are made through the relevant Service Authorities directly to the Engineers Company in response to calling notices issued by The Clerk.
