We extend a heartfelt thank you to Raymond Joyce for his leadership as Master Engineer during our 40th Anniversary year. His dedication in representing the company at various formal and informal settings, and as a spokesperson for our profession, has been outstanding. Here is what he had to say about his time as Master.

My year as Master has benefitted from stability including the same Monarch and the same Clerk! The City has finally thrown off the final shackles of Covid restrictions, and despite the irritation of the occasional rail strike, the Company has been able to complete a full programme in the year without any cancellations. On a personal level, I feel very lucky that I have not been prevented from attending any Company events due to illness or other circumstances.

The 40th anniversary of the founding of the Company fell within my year and was celebrated on 1 November at the Company’s banquet in Mansion House, precisely 40 years from presentation of the Company’s Letters Patent.  The Company was honoured by the presence of HRH Princess Royal, a member of the Livery, who was accompanied by her husband Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence KCVO, CB, CSM, ADC.

The Wardens, Dr Dolores Byrne OBE, Penny Taylor JP and Prof Andrew McNaughton FREng chair the committees and represent the Company in the City on occasions when the Master is unable to attend due to clashes of dates. I am grateful for their support, and since each of them in turn will be Master, barring misfortune, they will come to know just how heartfelt the thanks of the Master are given to them, and all the others mentioned
