A Parliamentary and Scientific Committee event

The Annual Lunch of the Parliamentary and Scientific Committee (PSC) was held on 1st July in the prestigious Cholmondeley Room and Terrace of the House of Lords, an ideal setting for an engaging afternoon of discussion and networking among esteemed guests and members of the scientific community. Viscount Stansgate, the president of PSC, graciously hosted the lunch, welcoming attendees and emphasising the vital connection between science and policymaking.

The highlight of the event featured an inspiring address from the after-dinner speaker, Professor Virginia Murray, the current chair of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) and the International Science Council (ISC). Professor Murray shared insights into her committee’s recent work and accomplishments, shedding light on critical global challenges, including disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation, and the importance of integrating scientific research into policy frameworks.
