On Tuesday evening Professor Andrew McNaughton FREng was installed as the 43rd Master of The Worshipful Company of Engineers.

Andrew McNaughton, on becoming the 43rd Master, reflected on the responsibility of leadership in uncertain times and set out a purposeful, values‑driven agenda for his year, grounded in accountability, challenge, and service. He emphasised the duty of senior engineers to support future generations, criticised over‑reliance on process at the expense of accountability, and argued that engineering leadership must actively shape society for the better. He outlined three themes for his Master’s year: visible support for the armed forces; celebrating engineering excellence across past, present, and future through events and visits; and reinforcing the principle that engineering and wealth creation must deliver equitable benefit to society as a whole. He closed by committing to serve the Company with energy and integrity, supported by a strong leadership team.
