Winner (Medal & £1000 Prize) – Christina Jasper

Christina Jasper was nominated by the IET and impressed the judges with her exceptional early career achievements, leadership and commitment to engineering excellence, safety and professional development. Since beginning her engineering career as an apprentice in 2019, Christina has demonstrated outstanding drive and capability, progressing rapidly through demanding engineering roles. She currently holds responsibility as the Wildcat Mechanical Systems Engineering Authority, where she manages all mechanical system issues on the platform, ensuring airworthiness, safety and operational effectiveness. Her work includes the investigation of Defence Air Safety Occurrence Reports, the issue of Technical Instructions to the Front Line, and the delivery of robust airworthiness records and trend analysis. Christina has repeatedly shown sound judgement and innovation in technically challenging environments. As a Chinook Capability Engineer, she delivered an urgent software upgrade six months early through a flight test clearance process endorsed by the Military Aviation Authority, achieving a cost-saving of £1M and earning a High Value Award from the Director of Helicopters. She has also demonstrated determination and ingenuity in overcoming trial and testing challenges to ensure critical programmes were delivered safely and effectively.

Beyond her technical excellence, Christina is a committed leader and advocate for professional development. She chairs the National Armaments Material Air Engineering Development Network, supporting over 300 engineers, and actively promotes STEM careers and engineering apprenticeships through schools engagement, national panels and parliamentary for a

Christina combines technical credibility, leadership, commercial awareness and a strong safety ethic with a genuine passion for developing others. She exemplifies the values of the Baroness Platt of Writtle Award and is a truly worthy winner.

Originally established to recognise engineering excellence amongst those pursuing final year studies leading to academic qualifications for entry to the Engineering Council’s Incorporated Engineer grade, this Award was refocused in 2013 on those who achieved registration as Incorporated Engineer in the preceding calendar year. Named after the late Livery member and Court Assistant Emeritus, The Baroness Platt of Writtle CBE FREng, in recognition of her work in support of the Engineering profession in general and Incorporated Engineers in particular, the Award was first made in 2002. The Engineers’ Company acknowledges the assistance of the Engineering Council and its partner Professional Engineering Institutions in selecting the winner.
